The Beauty Shortlist Awards are now in their 7th year and this year it accepted entries from over 600 beauty and skin care brands. An independent panel of judges carried out the testing over a 6 month period. The Cleansing Balm was one of those products submitted, tested and loved.
Soothing Cleansing Balm is an Editor’s Choice Winner
On Friday 2nd March 2018 the winners were announced and I am absolutely thrilled that the mango cleansing balm was included in the list of Editors Choice winners. There are so many reasons why I think it was chosen and why they fell in love with it. Maybe it was because it is a truly versatile, multipurpose cleansing balm or maybe because it works with a variety of skin types or maybe it was down to it’s wonderful aroma. If you want to see what the winning formula was then read on. Or perhaps you want to try the balm for yourself – there’s a £5 voucher waiting for you at the end of this post.
The development idea
I wanted to create a cleansing balm that worked with both my middle aged skin and my teenager’s skin. I needed it to have anti-ageing properties (for me), help with hormonal spots (for me and my teen), deal with oily skin (teen) yet cope with my mature skin too. It had to cleanse well, soothe irritated skin and be tough with my waterproof mascara.
The end result was a cleanser that did all this and more and here’s the what’s, the why’s and the how’s.
Suitable for sensitive, dry, mature & acne prone skin
If you are prone to sensitive, dry, mature or acne prone skin then you might want to make the soothing cleansing balm your winning choice too. It is a multifunctional 100% natural skin care product, tough on make up yet gentle on the skin. Use it as a cleanser, make up remover, lip balm or intensive moisturiser for really dry skin.
How does it work
This cleanser works in a similar way to the oil cleansing method. If you are unsure of this amazing cleansing method then you can read about it here The Oil Cleansing Method. It works well with all skin types, even oily and acne prone skin. The principal is that the hot cloth opens the pores allowing the balm to lift the dirt from the pores. The end result being deeply cleansed skin.
The magic ingredients
Every ingredient has been carefully selected for their soothing, cleansing, anti-ageing and healing properties. They all needed to be skin loving and 100% natural. There were numerous variations before reaching the final version, I’m a perfectionist! Thankfully it was worth it.
Moringa Oil is the newly listed superfood must have, and is fantastic with dry, mature or acne prone skin types. It softens dry skin by allowing the moisture levels in the skin to be maintained. Whilst at the same time having the ability to condition chapped or inflamed skin conditions.
Rich in vitamins, antioxidants and nutrients
With it’s high Vitamin E content, Rice Bran Oil is a wonderful antioxidant rich oil, highly beneficial for mature skin types.
Antioxidants fight off the damaging and skin ageing, Free Radicals. Free radicals develop from our exposure to outside sources such as pollution, sun damage and toxins. Their inclusion in skin care products aimed at both young and old is, I believe, essential.
Another great antioxidant rich oil that you’ll find in the cleansing balm is Chia Seed. High in omega 3 fatty acids it absorbs straight into the skin, preventing that oily feeling associated with many oil based products. This oil encourages skin repair which makes it ideal for use with acne prone or irritated skin.
Rejuvenating to mature skin
Rich in vitamins and antioxidants Rosehip Seed Oil rejuvenates the skin. Try massaging the balm into the neck area if this is where you notice the tell tale signs of ageing!
Mango Butter is also a perfect choice for both mature and teenage skin types. It hydrates and regenerates the skin reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Soothing and protecting it can help to ease irritated skin too.
The aroma of the cleansing balm is all down to the Plum Oil. It’s inclusion is what turns this cleansing balm into a great lip balm. Hydrating the lips whilst also conditioning to dry and chapped lips.
Castor Oil and Jojoba Oil are used in many cleansing and balm products due to their ability to lift dirt from the skin. This is the secret weapon in shifting the stubborn waterproof eye makeup! Jojoba oil also rebalances oily skin due to it’s ability to mimic the skin’s natural oil.
Candelilla Wax not only prevents moisture being lost from the skin, thereby protecting it, but it also makes this product vegan friendly. Candelilla Wax is full of nutrients and is a vegan alternative to bees wax.
Soothing to sensitive skin
Whilst many of the other ingredients are wonderfully soothing to inflamed or sensitive skin, Evening Primrose also provides fantastic soothing and healing properties to this soothing cleansing balm. So was a definite inclusion in the formulation of this balm.
